Oil quenching these SS 420 Square Bars from temperatures in the range of 1800 Degree F to 1950 Degree F (982 Degree C – 1066 Degree C) produces the highest strength and / or wear resistance as well as corrosion resistance. Our Alloy 420 Square Bars is a higher carbon version of Alloy 410 Square Bars which can be hardened by a quench-and-temper heat treatment. These Type 420 Square Bars offers good ductility in its annealed state and excellent corrosion resistance properties when the metal is being polished, surface grounded or hardened.
Our Grade 420 Square Bars is generally supplied hardened and tempered either in the tensile range 700 - 850 Mpa (condition R) Brinell range 201 - 255, or in the tensile range 770 - 930 Mpa (condition S). Due to its hardening properties, these AISI 420 Square Bars is not often welded, although it is possible. In this instance, our 420 Stainless SS Square Bars is heated to a minimum of 1472 Degree F then quenched and cooled. In the hardened condition, these Stainless Steel UNS S42000 Square Bars has good corrosion resistance to the fresh water, atmosphere, foods, mild alkalis and acids, steam, crude oil, gasoline, sterilizing solutions, and other similar corrosive media.
